Dear 2020

Dear 2020,

It’s been real! Thank you from the very bottom of my heart. What a year it’s been! While everyone has counted this as one of the worst on record, I beg to differ. 2020 was monumental for me, my family, and Brown Resumes. There is only ONE being I can thank for that, and that is my heavenly Father, also known as GOD.

While I missed out on a million social and business opportunities this year, having been encouraged and forced to stay indoors due to COVID-19, I was able in the mist of this unprecedented disaster to GROW EXPONENTIALLY, both personally and professionally.

First, I took the opportunity to spend an enormous amount of time with my family, purposely shutting down Brown Resumes here and there to support and bond with them, despite financial struggles. How thankful I am for those sacrificial choices. They reaffirmed my innate belief that the family unit and selfless gift of self are central to true happiness.

I also invested hours in books and virtual courses, and my vocabulary is now out of this world. You don’t want to challenge me to a spelling bee or Webster’s Dictionary contest, or go head-to-head with me on the nuances of marketing, because you will LOSE!

Another wonderful thing transpired. God allowed me to fulfill a life-long dream of going back to school. I am currently attending Harvard Business School courses thanks to Him…and this time, I will finish! Because of this milestone, I am now on track to acquire a dual MBA/JD degree in a nontraditional way. A goal I set many years ago to achieve by age 40.

God also inspired me with a number of business ideas that will be launched over the next five years. Brown Career Labs (www.browncareerlabs.com), for example, is scheduled for liftoff in 2021. On top of that, God granted me connections with prestigious mentors, about whom you will learn in my upcoming book.

This year, Brown Resumes celebrated its 3-year anniversary. Oh, what a ride it has been. As an anniversary present, God decided to bless us with a Top 10 ranking, which acknowledged us as one of New York City’s leading resume services. Out of the thousands of lives we have touched, scores of reviews we have received, numerous speaking engagements we’ve been invited to, and other accomplishments we’ve been graced with, making the Top Ten list was a particular honor. Thank you, God!

One important change deserves mention. If there was a year in my life that I prayed the most, it was 2020. I have never spent so much time praying and fasting, and I have to say that this combination is a recipe for miracles.

Despite all the wonderful blessings 2020 brought, there was one sad moment that I will never forget. I had to say goodbye to my hero, my father. On Thanksgiving Day, he was called home to Heaven with Jesus. My father was my everything! As much as I wanted him to live forever, I understand that there is a time for everything.

As Ecclesiastes 3 says, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

I want to take this time to say THANK YOU to all of the people who have invested in Brown Resumes over the last three years, through purchasing our products and services, engaging in partnerships with us, referring us to friends, consulting with us on projects, and supporting us in so many other ways. Without YOU, we couldn’t have come this far. We are forever grateful and indebted to you!

Start with GRATITUDE, and think about all the things you can THANK God for this year, and I believe you will find that 2020 was a GREAT year for you, too.

Cheers to an unforgettable 2021, filled with GRACE, HAPPINESS, and GOOD HEALTH!
